Ultra-Processed Food (UPF) — Dietary Pattern

UPFs ( category 4) are now ~55% of calories in many Western and Gulf diets. Each 10% increase in consumption is associated with ~14% higher all-cause mortality independent of total calories or macronutrients. The mechanism appears to be a combination of additives, displaced whole foods, and engineered overconsumption. The simplest longevity dietary intervention is replacing UPFs with minimally processed equivalents.
